I THINK Stuart Brechin is confused (last Thursday’s Oxford Mail ViewPoints). It is Northway church that is celebrating 50 years of opening.

The estate itself is indeed older. I myself moved here in October 1950, the last one to move into the road, so there were those here before me.

There were no footpaths to the houses, just a muddy track, with a muddy field where Emmaus is now.

And no shops, the nearest were at Cherwell Drive. Buses also stopped there, none came up to Northway. Copse Lane School must have been there, as my children started there and my eldest was three when we moved.

Mr Brechin’s father is certainly older than I am and so he could be the oldest resident. I hope this clears things up.

Northway Estate is a lovely place to live, quiet and friendly.
