TV presenter Kate Garraway went back to school yesterday as she visited Fitzharrys School, in Abingdon, where she studied as a teenager.

The Daybreak presenter spent a day at the comprehensive yesterday and caught up with some of her old teachers.

The former pupil spoke to Year Seven and Eight in assembly and was treated to performances by the winners of the school’s talent contest. She then caught up with former deputy head Malcolm Wright and her history teacher Denis Smith.

Later on, she accompanied the school band on the violin as they played the Daybreak theme tune.

Fitzharrys’ headteacher Jonathan Dennett said: “It was wonderful to welcome Kate back to Fitzharrys.

“The students were proud to perform for her in assembly, and they also enjoyed working and playing alongside her in the classroom.

“It was great to hear her happy memories of Fitzharrys.”
