Ibrahim Iqbal is only 19 but he has already created his own clothing line — a range of T-shirts that aim to get people dancing in the street.

With business partner Yasir Osman, whom he met on Oxford and Cherwell Valley College’s business diploma course, he has set up a company called KandiKing Clothing.

His obsession with customised clothing grew out of a Red Nose Day event at his school, Oxford Community School, now the Oxford Spires Academy.

He said: “We usually sold sweets, but one year we decided to create something more fun and unique. We got some cheap T-shirts from Primark and transfer paper and created characters for ourselves “Ever since I did that, I was using my pocket money buying T-shirts and spending money on printing paper and transfer paper. The T-shirt went on my mother's ironing board and I wore it next day. I saw there was a market for a clothing line so I trademarked it.”

At the moment, the group is aiming to build up 'representatives' by getting the T-shirts seen on musicians, dancers and DJs. Wearers have included Animaniacs, Stylistic Dance Crew, JLS and Trilogy.

“There are quite a few names that have worn it, mainly Oxford-based artists and DJs, and also London-based. It is not just the hip-hop and R&B scene.

“Some people who prefer rock music wear it. It is not like anything you could buy in a shop.”

The other major marketing method is social networking, with the Facebook page motto: “The clothing describe you as a person what you rock with it makes you the The New Generation of Swagg.”

Iqbal is chief executive, Lawrence Yau is chief designer, and Louis 'Platinum' May is promoter.

The company's mentor is Stuart J Miller chief executive of ByBox delivery company, based in Grove, near Wantage.

Mr Iqbal said: “We have to thank our tutor at OCVC, Zelga Anderson, for finding him for us. We could not have done it without his help.”

At the moment, KandiKing is concentrating on promotion and marketing, with next-day delivery by By-Box — or in person for people who live near Mr Iqbal's home in Headington.

He fits in running the company with his job at Hugo Boss in Bicester Village, but if all goes well, he hopes to expand the range with varsity jackets, shoes, hats, jumpers, hoodies, socks, boxers, belts and gloves.
