THE red carpet will be rolled out in East Oxford for a premiere of a top children’s film – and it is all for charity.

The regional premiere of Horrid Henry will be held at the Ultimate Picture Palace (UPP), Jeune Street, on Wednesday, July 27.

As well as an early chance to see what promises to be a summer blockbuster, youngsters will also have a chance to quiz screenwriter Lucinda Whiteley – along with a couple of unnamed special guests.

The event will raise money for East Oxford hospice charity Helen & Douglas House.

Ms Whiteley, who also produced the film, said: “Novel Entertainment is incredibly proud to be working with Helen & Douglas House to be bringing the regional premiere of the film Horrid Henry: The Movie to Oxford, and to be able to support the tremendous work of the hospice.”

The red carpet event could raise as much as £2,500, which would pay for essential medical supplies at the two hospices for four months.

Hospice activity events manager Fiona Evans said: “We are really lucky to have had the great support of Lucinda Whiteley and Novel Entertainment as well as the UPP in order for us to host the event.

“It is such a fitting link – a children and young adults’ hospice with the aim of living life to the full and the regional premiere of a fun children’s film.”

Horrid Henry actor Theo Stevenson visited the hospice as part of children’s hospice week in May.

Hospice PR manager Lin Beekar said: “Theo was fabulous fun, posing for photographs with the children, signing autographs and even decorating cakes.

He also read extracts from the Horrid Henry books to a group of children in the tree house. He was charming.”

The film also stars Richard E Grant, Angelica Huston, Jo Brand and Noel Fielding.

l Screenings will take place at 2pm and 5pm, with two question and answer sessions between showings.

Tickets cost £12 or £8 for concessions and are available from the cinema or from the charity’s shops in the Covered Market, Headington and Summertown.

Ms Whiteley will also be meeting film-goers at The Tree Hotel, Church Way, Iffley, for a Horrid Henry themed two-course lunch, with donations from the £7.95 per head ticket price going to the charity.
