THE husband of a woman who died in a car crash has spoken of his “incalculable” loss.

Liz Meechan, 45, died after her silver BMW hit a tree near her home village of Bampton at 2am on Monday.

She was returning home after an evening with friends. No other vehicles were involved.

Her husband Mike, 47, said: “The loss is incalculable. I cannot properly quantify it. It will not kick in until after the funeral, the big things and the small things.”

Mrs Meechan, a mother-of-two, was a pharmaceutical contracts manager for the Department of Health and worked from home in Market Square.

She was also a former parent teacher association vice chair of Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, in Witney, and had been secretary of the 1st Standlake and Cokethorpe Sea Scout group.

Mr Meechan, from Market Square, said: “She always had a smile on her face and was very, very caring. She had space and time for everyone.

“She was also bubbly and outgoing. The first person on the dance floor and the last person to go to bed.”

The couple had celebrated 25 years of marriage in April.

He said Mrs Meechan had a passion for running and had completed 15 marathons across six countries, including events in Paris, Luxembourg and New York. She had raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation.

She was also involved with choir and folk groups in Witney and loved travelling.

Her children, Josh, 14, and Joanna, 12, are pupils at Henry Box School in Witney.

Mrs Meechan was brought up near Edinburgh and moved to Bampton in 1996.

She studied pharmacy at the Open University and had just finished a post graduate course at the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. She had only just handed in her dissertation.

Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School headteacher Jenny Walker said: “Liz was a lovely lady who was full of life and did anything for you. She will be missed by us all.”

She said Mrs Meechan had helped raise thousands of pounds for the school. A tree will be planted at the school in Mrs Meechan’s memory.

Sue Weston, leader of the 1st Standlake and Cokethorpe Sea Scout group, said: “Liz was always enthusiastic, about sports and life, and she will be very much missed.”
