I had to point this out before, but John Tanner states in his letter (Oxford Mail, June 29), that the Government wants to tax pension contributions to plug the financial deficit.

Does Mr Tanner not mean to write ‘my party’ (Labour) which caused this terrible deficit?

Maybe he has forgotten what Labour did – which was to put this country in a terrible state and not think of the repercussions.

The one thing Labour did not do, for which I think many people living in this great country are also grateful, was to change the currency to the pathetic Euro.

Just look what’s happening to Greece and the turmoil that is happening now.

I dislike these cuts as much as anyone else, but we have got to try and get this country back on a better financial footing.
