THE head of Our Lady’s Junior School in Abingdon, Brendan O’Neill, said parents and supporters were pulling out all the stops to help collect tokens for its project.
Pupils want to transform an overgrown patch of land into a new eco-garden, which could be used in science lessons.
Last week, the school had a non-uniform day, with pupils bringing in Oxford Mail tokens instead of money to wear their casual clothes to school.
Mr O’Neill said: “It has gone very well, and everybody is very excited about it.
“Lots of people are buying multiple copies of the paper, pupils are bringing them in, ex-staff are collecting for us and people in the community are sending them in.
“Every morning in assembly, we have a group from Year Four who stand up and tell us all how many we have collected.
“The pupils have been very excited about the project and have been walking over there at break times to chat about it.”
