Sir – I feel for Cicely Piggott and husband, for the worry that they must have endured, after receiving the parking penalty notice (Letters, June 23).

It would seem that the warden was set on catching people to further his allocation or ego maybe. Whist locally we know about the charges for blue badge holders, this I have no argument with, but this will not have circulated fully outside Cherwell.

Also the warning notices of this change are not all that obvious in the car parks.

Further it seems, that the warden may have seen the offenders and should have appreciated that two elderly people are not usually law breakers.

I got caught in North of England, simply in a senior moment, I put the arrival time instead of the leaving time on my disc and had a £30 penalty notice understandably. I rang the authority, apologised for my lack of concentration and since I was within the time limit, this was obviously a more enlightened authority the notice was cancelled. Note £30 penalty and not an excessive £80.

I note that with a couple of other instances, of minor infringements, that our once public spirited authority is becoming a little more vindictive and less caring for its community.

It would be appreciated if some more thought be given to some more old fashioned customer care and communication.
