OXFORD United are set to kick off the new football season with their biggest open day yet.

The event takes place at the Kassam Stadium tomorrow and will give fans the chance to meet their heroes and pull on the team’s new home kit.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “This will be a really fun day for all our fans.

“This will give our supporters their first chance to see and buy the home kit and take a look at the new signings we have brought in over the summer.

“There will also be lots of exciting activities taking place all over the ground, including exhibitions and interesting things to see and do.”

Last year’s event attracted about 4,000 supporters, and the club is hoping that this time around even more will turn up.

Between 9am and noon, fans will see the first team put through its paces in a training session and have the chance to get a photo taken with their favourite player and club mascot Olly the Ox.

Once again, there will be a penalty shoot-out competition, which will give five lucky supporters the opportunity to compete against the stars of the United first team.

United supporters will also be able to commentate over a video of Alfie Potter’s promotion-clinching Wembley goal with the Jack FM radio commentary team.

And children will be able to play against their first-team heroes in a giant match on the Kassam Stadium pitch.

There will also be a bouncy castle and a FIFA stall provided by Game Station.

The Oxford Mail will also be offering a Frankie & Benny’s VIP Pass to the first 100 children who come to the Oxford Mail stand with the coupon printed below.

This entitles them to eat free for a year. All other children who bring along the coupon will eat free on their sixth visit to the restaurant.

From noon to 4pm tomorrow, the Kassam Stadium will be the venue for the Give it a Go sports day, which gives fans the chance to try activities such as karate, Hawaiian dancing and yoga. Entrance to the open day is free.
