Pupils from a Didcot primary school enjoyed a trip by train as part of their transport project.
Youngsters aged six and seven from Manor Primary School met staff from Didcot Railway Centre’s education team in a visit to the heritage centre next to Didcot Parkway station.
Staff in 19th-century costume explained various aspects of Victorian railway travel and broad gauge locomotive Fire Fly was running to give pupils at the Lydalls Close school an experience of 1840s Rail travel.
Robert Cresswell, one of the teachers who accompanied pupils, said: “The children had a wonderful time.
“They have been learning about transport throughout history as part of their Jet Set topic.
“They found out about how the railways were built by hard-working navvies and how the coming of the railways affected children’s lives in Didcot at the time.
“They particularly enjoyed riding on the replica 19th century steam train Fire Fly and sitting in the third-class carriage with no roof.”
Fire Fly will also be running tomorrow and Sunday.
