VILLAGERS who successfully fought plans to stop an asylum centre being built on their doorstep are gearing up for a second battle with the Government.

The Ministry of Defence wants to build a giant warehouse for supplies such as clothes at the end of people’s back gardens in Arncott. It wants to knock down an existing warehouse at the site, near Green Lane, for a super-warehouse which which cater for items currently stored at a facility at Graven Hill. That land is being sold off for housing.

But villagers say a new warehouse at Green Lane would create too much traffic and noise and would be an eyesore.

Maureen Gouldie, 69, of Norris Road, said: “The people of the village understand the need for high standards of efficiency relating to supplies for the armed forces. But surely this could be achieved without blotting out the skyline of ordinary people”

An MoD spokesman said: “The MOD is working on plans to reduce the impact of this on residents of Green Lane and the adjoining village since the consultation on June 11.”
