I HAVE read the letter from Barrie Blackburn about the excellent Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (Oxford Mail, June 17), and I agree with him.

My mother, Gladys Taylor, who is 87, attended the NOC two weeks ago for a partial knee replacement, and the care under Mr Taylor and his team was exemplary.

She had nothing but the best treatment from all staff, and in particular, the nursing staff.

She had a further couple of frights with pneumonia and then a thrombosis on her return home.

Her GP, Dr Brian Green from the Cogges surgery, Witney, came to see her after his surgery, and made an urgent appointment for her to attend the thrombosis clinic at the Churchill the following day.

Luckily, it wasn't a thrombosis, but she has a follow-up appointment for the following week, just to make sure.

In this day and age, when you hear such frightening stories about negligent care for the elderly within the NHS, I thought my mother’s story may go some way to alleviate the worries of families in a similar situation.

Mine, and my mother’s, deepest thanks go to all staff at the NOC, Dr Green, and to the nursing staff at the thrombosis clinic at the Churchill.

Your excellent standards of service are second to none. How pleased and grateful we all are that we live in a county with what must be the best all-round care service in the country.

GILL SCOTT, Queen Emma’s Dyke, Witney
