MORE than two thirds of child car seats in Oxfordshire are unsuitable for children, a road safety officer has warned.

Checks on county cars as part of Child Safety Week showed many parents were using the wrong sized seats or were not fitting them correctly.

Oxfordshire County Council’s road safety team have been offering free checks at county car parks, including one at Mothercare at Oxford Retail Park on Monday. About 600 are checked each year.

Lizzy Williams, 32, pictured holding baby Owen, from St Omer Road, Cowley, was shocked to find the car seat for her nine-month-old was not correctly fitted. She said: “I had to do quite a lot of fine tuning, which I had missed. I had thought it was fine, but now it has been changed it makes the car seat that much safer.”
