BLUSHING bride Julie Cox has finally got the wedding of her dreams – 25 years after tying the knot with her husband Terry.

The 47-year-old said “I do” to 59-year-old Terry in a white wedding at St Andrew’s Church in Old Headington – a quarter of a century after going to her big day at Oxford Register Office on the bus.

Mr Cox, chairman of Headington Royal British Legion, said: “It was a bit of a rush job the first time round.

“About 95 per cent of people were against it back then, but we wanted to go ahead with it anyway.

“And we’ve lasted 25 years, so we can’t be doing that badly. We’ve proved all those people wrong.”

The two nupitals could not have been more different.

In 1986, the young lovebirds lived in a bedsit and travelled by bus to the register office with baby daughter Tracey, before heading to the pub.

This time they travelled by classic car to reaffirm their love for each other in front of Tracey, now 26, and son John, 25, who Mrs Cox was carrying the first time.

While the 1986 celebrations were concluded with pints and pub grub, this year the happy couple jetted off to the more luxurious surroundings of Lanzarote.

And they have some more good news on the way – Tracey is also expecting the couple’s first grandchild, due in October.

Mr Cox said: “Julie always said she would have really loved a white wedding. I thought now would be the time to make it happen for her.

“But you wouldn’t believe how much a wedding costs these days. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Mr Cox’s brother Keith, best man first time around, did the honours again. But a new addition was Mrs Cox’s dress, which this time set her back about £300. The whole wedding cost more than £2,000.

Mrs Cox, an Argos worker, said: “We didn’t have it at all right the first time round, so to be able to do it all again is really nice.”

She added: “And at least this time he knew I’d definitely say yes.”

The couple went back to their home in Bayswater Road, Barton, before heading off on their honeymoon.
