A WOMAN who had a glass smashed in her face by her husband admitted still loving him as he was jailed for 40 weeks yesterday.

Former Witney United manager Darren Teggart, 43, left, was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court after jurors last month convicted him of assault causing actual bodily harm.

Teggart, of Burwell Drive, Witney, pushed the glass into wife Katrina’s face as she was drinking on June 19 last year. She needed 16 stitches.

Teggart has previous convictions for GBH against a man and two assault offences against Mrs Teggart.

John Simmons, defending, said his client had received two text messages from his estranged partner yesterday morning reading “love you and always will” and “love you”.

The 44-year-old nurse, who is in the process of divorcing her attacker, last night denied sending the messages and said she had deleted his number.

Of the sentence she added: “I was expecting it to be more but I just hope that he gets some sort of help more than anything.”

She added: “And yes I do still love him. And I always will.

“But I know I have done the right thing.

“It’s my family and friends who have helped me to stay strong.”

Judge Mary Jane Mowat imposed an indefinite restraining order on Teggart.
