CHARITY fundraiser Terry Waite joined more than 200 people in a complete reading of the King James version of the Bible at a theological college near Oxford.
Over the course of a fortnight at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, almost a million words and over 30,000 Bible verses were read out. The reading raised £15,000 for the college’s overseas bursary fund.
Mr Waite said: “This really was an excellent initiative, involving hundreds of people in reading, as well as raising thousands of pounds to help students from developing countries to come and study here at Cuddesdon. It was a privilege to be part of this, and very moving to be able to read the closing chapters of the Bible to mark the end of the event.”
Inspector Morse author Colin Dexter also took part in the reading, one of a series of events to mark the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible.
