YOU’VE heard of the rhyme about a bicycle made for two.
At Islip, they went even further, with a bicycle made for FOUR.
Four friends, from the top, Chris Busby, Bob Shirley, Mike Bateman and Den Bosher, pose for the cameraman while the bike takes the strain.
If there had been room, two other friends, Albert Busby and Bud Sollis, would probably have joined them.
The picture was taken in 1949 at Islip Bridge, where the six friends often gathered before going off to play football.
Mr Busby, who now lives in The Moors, Kidlington, recalls: “We played in a field near the bridge.
“We called it the green. But before we could play, we often had to wait until the farmer had moved his cows out.”
