AN OXFORD woman who streamlined domestic abuse support in the county will become an MBE.

Romy Briant, 59, of Canterbury Road, formed the Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Strategy Group in 2004.

The organisation links authorities, such as Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire County Council, to better help victims of domestic abuse. Before the organisation was formed, victims often had to go through 14 agencies before they got the help they needed. Now there are two.

And, since it formed, not a single person who has contacted the organisation has been murdered by their partner.

Mrs Briant said: “I feel enormously loved because people have taken the trouble to propose me.

“We have achieved so much here, working with people who have been victims of domestic abuse, and this is recognition of that.

“But, for me, it also recognition of my husband (Richard, 58). I could not have given the time without him.”
