Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash on the A40 at Barnard Gate, near Witney, this afternoon.

The three-vehicle collision, which involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van, a grey Vauxhall Movano van and a grey Vauxhall Meriva car, happened at about 2.10pm.

The car driver, a man aged in his seventies, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said his next of kin had been informed.

The driver of the Mercedes van, a man, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with leg injuries. The driver of the Movano van was not injured.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Road closures have been put in place to allow emergency services and investigators access.

"Traffic is being diverted away from the scene and motorists are being asked to avoid the area. It is not yet known how long the road closures will remain in place for."
