Sir – All change on county’s libraries (Report, June 2) is excellent news. However, councillor Mitchell’s reported comments have insulted me, and I suspect, the thousands who have fought for this outcome. Aged 90, and partially disabled, I am certainly concerned over funding for “the vulnerable”, but, as I read lot (to maintain my mental health, councillor) my visit to Bury Knowle every six weeks or so, is invaluable.
A fundamental question was never answered, to my knowledge, namely, why couldn’t all libraries remain open, with reduced opening hours, rather than close half of them.
The support of your paper, sir, over the last few months, will have contributed to the present outcome, and so, I am sure, you will feel equally incensed by councillor Mitchell’s attitude towards us.
Martin Sheldon, Headington Quarry
