I write in response to a letter in Friday’s Oxford Mail from Neil Thompson, in response to my letter, reference lorry drivers on the A34.

If, as he claims, lorry drivers receive the extensive training they do, that fails to explain why many incidents on motorways seem to involve a lorry.

He also seems to believe that because a lorry is restricted to 56mph, that is a valid reason to tailgate, which, if his memory is as good as he claims it is, was the point of my original letter.

As to my driving, I drive to the conditions on the road, and well back from the vehicle in front.

As to the 56mph restriction on lorries, again I refer to my original letter. When I hit 70mph both lorries kept up with me, and, in fact, seemed rather annoyed I wasn’t driving even faster.

This may well explain the cause of so many lorry drivers feeling the need to park in my boot.

Their restrictors may be either broken, or, heaven forbid, bypassed.
