Police are appealing for help after a girl and a woman were shot at with a BB gun in Banbury.

A 16-year-old girl was walking along George Street when she felt a sharp pain in her chest and realised she had been shot at.

The incident happened at about 2.30pm on May 27 and although no one was seen nearby, police said a white Transit-style van was passing at the time of the incident.

Shortly before 4pm on the same day, a 42-year-old woman driver was shot at in Cherwell Street, with the ball bearing striking her on the jaw.

A white Transit-style van was also seen at the time of the incident.

PC Nathan Davis said: “Thankfully neither of the people shot at suffered any serious injuries, but this could have been very different.

“When you shoot at someone with a BB gun, you may end up hitting them in the eye, causing permanent damage to their sight.

“The woman shot at in Cherwell Street was actually driving at the time of the incident, and this mindless behaviour might have caused her to lose control of her vehicle.

“I would urge anyone with information about this incident to come forward and speak to me as soon as possible so that we can find the person responsible and stop this irresponsible behaviour.”

Anyone with information should contact PC Davis via the 24-hour Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively, you can contact the Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
