A PIECE of art made of buttons will go on display at the Cowley Road Carnival event in South Park to highlight the issue of mental health.

Jane Yates, from Wolvercote, is asking for contributions from residents to help the six-foot-tall ‘Button Forest’ blossom ahead of the Fiesta in the Park on July 3.

The 48-year-old, who has battled depression since childhood, said each button will represent someone who has suffered from mental illness.

Miss Yates, who was diagnosed with dyslexia at 28, said: “One in four people suffer from some sort of mental health issue at some point in their life.”

About 30 staff members and users of the Oxfordshire Mind centre at The Mill in Cowley Road are working on the project but more buttons and donations are being sought.

Anyone wanting to attend a workshop at the mental health charity can visit The Mill between 7pm and 8.30pm this Wednesday or on Wednesday, June 15. Contact Miss Yates on buttonforest@gmail.com
