A BEAUTY queen who lost her father in a cycle accident will overcome her fear of bikes to pedal for charity cash.

Newly-crowned Miss Oxford Kirsty Beer, 21, will cycle 60 miles from Kidlington to Banbury and Bicester and back to Kidlington, on Sunday.

But it will be especially hard for the Cumnor dance teacher as her dad was killed while cycling on a family holiday in 1998.

Miss Beer said: “I’m terrified of cycling on the road, I can’t remember the last time I was on a bike. My dad was killed in an accident when we were on holiday in Scotland. A car drove into the back of him.”

Richard Beer, from Henley-on-Thames, was 37 and left wife, Catriona, three daughters and a son.

Miss Beer said: “I was only eight and my eldest sister was 12, so I’m a bit worried.

“I don’t know what I’m most nervous about, not being able to finish the cycle or being so close to all the traffic.”

She will be joined by seven co-workers at Parkwood Leisure.

She said: “One of the women coming along, Karen, is a personal trainer and nicknamed ‘The Dominator’, so hopefully she’ll get me going.”

The cycle will raise money for the ‘Miss World Beauty with a Purpose’ initiative, which gives money to charities worldwide, including the Red Cross and Cleft Palate Teams in South America.

Miss Beer was crowned Miss Oxford in a ceremony last month.

She said: “It was really exciting to win, I honestly didn’t expect to win at all.

“There were other Kirstys in the running too, so even when they called my name, I didn’t think they meant me.”

She will go forward to the semi-finals of the Miss England competition in Leicestershire on June 13.

Miss Beer said: “It’s less than two weeks away and I’m so excited, it will be a really good experience.”

Rounds include the sportswear, which replaced the swimwear round, and a contest to make an ‘eco-dress’.
