I write in reply to the letter from Ken Roper of Kidlington (Monday’s Oxford Mail ViewPoints).

I would like to submit that it is he who is at fault and not the truck driver.

If you make a habit of using dual carriageways driving at 50ish-mph, it won’t take long before a truck comes up behind you, because they are limited to 56mph.

People like Mr Roper who travel at 50ish-mph are the bane of truckers’ existence. Why?

Because they are only a few mph faster than you, it will take them a fortnight to get past you.

That’s provided you stay at your speed. If you accelerate a bit, the truck is stuck out in a lane with nowhere to go, because you are on his inside.

Do the truckers a favour and drive at 56mph or higher.

To answer the other comment about truck drivers being the worst drivers on our roads, I would like to say if every driver did the amount of training that a HGV driver does, the roads would be a safer place.

By the way, I’m not a trucker I’m an ambulance driver.

I find truckers to be very considerate.

When I’m on any road with my lights flashing, it’s always truckers who are the first to react and they will always try to get as far out of my way as possible, whereas some car drivers don’t even move an inch.

So Mr Roper, worry about your own driving before you start banging your gums about other people’s.
