SYLVIA Clark won’t forget the time this picture was taken.
It dates from the 1980s when workmen were fitting a new gate at Sandford Lock, the deepest on the River Thames.
A crane was brought in to remove the old gate and lift the new one into position.
Mrs Clark’s husband, Norman, better known as Nobby, was the lock-keeper and they lived in the lock-keeper’s house alongside the lock.
Mrs Clark, now of Berrymere Road, Wootton, near Abingdon, recalls: “The house shook while the work was being done.”
