A Grade-II listed 18th-century house that belonged to the Early family who owned one of Witney’s famous blanket factories, is on the market.

Jewellery designer Sushilla Done and husband, artist and interior designer Mark, bought Lynton House four years ago and set about painstakingly restoring it.

The property started life as a stone cottage in the 1790s, but the wealthy Earlys added an imposing Georgian facade in 1820.

It has many period features including high ceilings, cornicing, panelling, sash windows with working shutters, flagstone flooring and the original 19th-century staircase.

The front door has a decorative fanlight and is surrounded by stone columns.

Mrs Done, who runs an online jewellery company, said: “My son Jasper left to go to university in London last September and the place suddenly seems too big and empty for the two of us.

“Mark works abroad a lot, and my jewellery business has taken off in a huge way, which means I am spending more time in India sourcing gems and talking to suppliers about my designs.

“We are looking to buy a smaller place in London which would make more sense. Another bonus is that we will also be nearer our son,” she added.

Lynton House has three reception rooms — a drawing room with a marble fireplace, a dining room and a sitting room with French doors to the garden.

The kitchen/breakfast room includes an Aga, original parquet flooring and a pantry.

On the first floor are four double bedrooms, one ensuite, plus a family bathroom and there are also two attic rooms that are currently used as storage space.

Another feature of the house is a folly at the end of the garden, a stone building with a fireplace and window shutters.

The grounds include a gravel driveway, lawn, shed and woodstore and the front of the house overlooks a village green.

Lynton House is on the market for £950,000. For more information, or to arrange a viewing, contact agents Savills on 01865 339700 or visit savills.com
