Sir – Last week I looked forward to the issue of The Oxford Times in order to see what developments had occurred in the revelation that Christopher Gray is a work of fiction. Sadly, the column did not appear.

But to this sharp-eyed reader it is clear that your creative team have not been idle.

They have created a fan whose fan letter is clearly a product of the same febrile minds which created Christopher Gray initially.

It has the rambling approach and relies on a dodgy and hominem argument stating that Christopher Gray is an OK guy because the ladies in his life are OK too.

Moreover, Hermione would have been an “Upmarket Andrews sister” but for the fact that she was something “Hush hush in Electronics”! This surreal flight of fancy is pure gold and lifted straight out of the Christopher Gray handbook of prose style I congratulate you on an inventive piece of journalism, probably superior to Private Eye.

Long may the Christopher Gray column continue, largely for the stimulus it provides to letter writers such as Mr Richardson.
