I AM writing in response to your report on the possible development of Oxford Stadium for housing (Thursday’s Oxford Mail) I would like to ask why there was no mention of speedway in the history of the stadium?
Speedway racing started there in 1949 and when I was going to watch the speedway from 1966, the Cheetahs were filling the stadium every Thursday and probably attracting larger support than the “dogs”.
If the stadium is sold, I for one will have no sympathy towards the greyhound fraternity, as it was their association that was to blame for the demise of the Oxford Cheetahs in 2006.
