THERE are no prizes for guessing where Karen Wilmer got the inspiration for her son Beckham, and it seems her children have also inherited her passion for unusual names.

Mrs Wilmer, 42, from Blackbird Leys, Oxford, said: “Beckham Levi is eight and his brother Cheyenne Ivana Jovi (after the rock band Bon Jovi), is 20.

“Alice is 23 and although her name is popular now, it was pretty unusual when she was born. I also have two grandchildren, a girl, Brooklyn and a boy, Lamari, who are both a year old. I guess you could say we’re a family with a lot of unusual names, but they seem to like them and it makes them stand out.”

Mrs Wilmer added: “I chose the name Beckham after David Beckham because I like him and I think he’s a great role model – although it took a bit of persuading my husband Rob, as he’s a Chelsea fan.

“Cheyenne was named after a barman I met as a 16-year-old. I loved his name and its Indian origins so much that I kept it with me and it was still my first choice when I had my first son 10 years later.”

Mrs Wilmer has two other daughters, Caroline, 22 and Emma, 20. She said: “All I can say is that I didn’t choose their names. But I’m thrilled they are choosing unusual names too.

“Alice’s little girl Brooklyn, isn’t copied from the Beckhams, but was named after one of Alice’s favourite songs.

“And Lamari, the name of Caroline’s son, was simply made up, but is lovely.”
