A driver has died after his car crashed into a ditch in Benson.
Police were called to the incident in Brook Street shortly before 2.30am today when another driver spotted the vehicle, a French-registered Peugeot 206, in a ditch.
Insp Andy West, of Thames Valley Police, said: “A member of the public called to say they had seen a vehicle in a ditch on the Benson to Ewelme road.
“Officers found the car and found that the male driver was dead. He has not yet been identified.”
The road remained closed until about 10am this morning while traffic accident investigators from Abingdon roads policing department tried to establish the cause of the crash.
Insp West added: “We are trying to find out if another vehicle was involved in the accident and would like to hear from drivers who may have seen something because they were on that stretch of road.”
He said a post mortem examination would be carried out to establish how the driver died.
Ambulance crews and firefighters were also called to the crash.
Michelle Ullett, a spokesman for South Central Ambulance, said: “The patient was declared dead at the scene.”
