OXFORD City Council has spent over £350,000 on its credit cards over the last three years, a Freedom of Information Act request has revealed.

In total, the council spent £351,248.69 on its cards over the past three years.

But the total only includes bills over £500, meaning the total sum could be far higher.

According to documents published by the Daily Telegraph, the council is rated 23rd out of 186 councils for the amount spent on its cards.

Payments put on plastic include £171,399 towards maintenance, £49,341 on publicity and £6,852 on hotels.

Cherwell District Council put £85,990.01 on its credit cards over the same period, and Vale of White Horse made credit card payments totalling £6517.41.

Oxfordshire County Council, South Oxfordshire and West Oxfordshire district councils did not use their credit cards for any payments over £500.
