Seventeen managers from Midcounties Co-operative supermarkets, who walked nine miles along the River Thames, expect to raise £1,300 for charity Women’s Aid.

The team of store managers and deputy managers walked from Abingdon Lock to Sandford Lock and back on Thursday, May 5.

The walk took four hours and included a stop half-way along the route for drinks delivered from Midcounties’ Abingdon supermarket.

Kevin Arblaster, the manager of the Steventon Co-op, organised the Lock to Lock event.

Mr Arblaster said: “It was our first fundraising activity for our new charity partner and it went very well.

“It was not only for a good cause but it also gave colleagues a chance to get together outside our normal working environment.

“The walk took us through some lovely countryside and we spotted a muntjac deer and two herons along the way. Everyone enjoyed it and we want to organise more events to help Women’s Aid.”

The charity works to end domestic violence against women and children.
