THE continuing signals are that Oxford Spires Academy, created so controversially from the ashes of Oxford School just four months ago, is indeed achieving education bosses’ aims.

The academy has previously painted a rosy outlook but today we report the independent assessment of how the new facility is going.

It agrees with the academy that there is expected to be a very good improvement in GCSE results this year, while attendance and pupil behaviour is also getting better.

The abolition of Oxford School was hugely controversial, with parents and many connected to the school community fighting bitterly against the proposal by Oxfordshire County Council.

They were right to put forward their concerns but at the moment it would appear the county was right.

At the end of the day – whatever arguments were put forward for or against – the only outcome had to be that every one of those pupils at the school had a better chance to succeed in their education and give themselves a good platform for the rest of their lives.

We hope everyone in the community will accept this if the results show the expected improvement – both this year and in the future.
