Mayor of Oxford, Councillor Elise Benjamin receives a painting from Chinese artist Ji Xia
A CHINESE artist presented Oxford’s new mayor with a painting of Magdalen Tower on Friday in gratitude for the city’s inspiration in his work.
Xia Ji’s painting of the college in the snow will now hang in the Town Hall in Pembroke Street.
Lord Mayor of Oxford Elise Benjamin said: “It is a beautiful painting. He sat out in deep snow and painted the view from Magdalen Bridge looking at the college, it is really lovely.
“It is a classic painting, but it is such a beautiful view because of the snow.”
Cllr Benjamin, a Green party member, was elected the city’s 51st lord mayor at a ceremony on Thursday.
