A TEAM of charity fundraisers completed a gruelling 20-mile trek hauling concrete blocks to help a three-year-old girl who lost her lower limbs because of meningitis.

Charlotte Nott, pictured with her dad Alex Nott and mum Jenny Daniels, had to have her limbs amputated below the joints when she contracted an aggressive form of the disease.

On Saturday, a team of Thong Rangers pushed three barrows containing eight 30lb blocks from Didcot Football Club’s Loop Meadow stadium to the Prince of Wales pub, in Horspath Road, Oxford. The team completed the journey in five hours and 15 minutes, while eight Rangerettes took donations from members of the public.

Passersby and drivers were asked for cash as the team passed through Steventon, Drayton, Abingdon, Radley, and Kennington.

In Oxford, they walked along Abingdon Road, St Aldates, High Street, Cowley Road and Hollow Way to the pub.

Father-of-two Clifford Oakes from Didcot, pictured next to the family, said: “The Thong Rangers have been going now for 11 years and I think this was one of our toughest tasks so far.

“It was pretty gruelling at times because of all the hills. Steventon Hill was very tough and walking up Cowley Road to the police station really took it out of us at the end of the route.

“We got a fantastic response from members of the public.”
