MORE than 100 dancers were shimmying their way to health and fitness in Oxford at the weekend. The annual Bellydance Bonanza was held at Oxford Spires Academy, in East Oxford, on Saturday and attracted dancers from across the South East.
The event featured a dozen specialist tutors teaching different moves, styles and techniques.
Enjoying the dancing was 61-year-old Janet Proudman, a senior lecturer at Oxford Brookes University.
She said: “It was a great event, it was a really really good day.
“I’ve been doing it for 18 years. It’s for all ages, you don’t need a man to dance with, and it’s a brilliant way to keep fit.
“I lost two stone when I started, just because it gives you more confidence.”
She added: “There was one man there at my class on Saturday, he looked like he was enjoying himself.”
