WITNEY proved to be more than “cheap as chips” when David Dickinson popped in to film his latest TV show.

The TV antiques dealer spent a day at the town’s Windrush Leisure Centre, filming for the new series of ITV’s Real Deal.

Dozens of eager local people turned up to get their possessions valued and sold.

Nick Overton, from Stanton Harcourt, said: “We came for fun, but hoped to make some money as well.”

Among the items he was selling was an electric train set which belonged to his great-grandfather.

Sylvia Hickman, from Witney, had an album filled with drawings, paintings and poems by Witney people from 1903. She said: “They thought it was really interesting but said I should take it to a specialist. It’s nice to think it is worth something.”

Terrie Reynolds, inset, from Sandford-on-Thames, had an alabaster clock, given to her by her uncle, valued by Mr Dickinson. She said the money she was offered was less than she had been expecting but said the day had been “brilliant”.
