WALLINGFORD couple Gavin and Sharon Robinson will never get over the loss of their baby twins.

But now they hope to provide support for parents who find themselves in the same position by raising money for two charities.

Hairdresser Gavin, 26, and Sharon, 36, of St Mary’s Street, lost their twin babies on March 18 when they were born prematurely at 23 weeks. The normal pregnancy term is between 38 and 42 weeks.

Indie lived for 42 minutes and her twin brother Alfie was stillborn.

On Sunday, May 29, Mr and Mrs Robinson are staging a fundraising head shave and waxing session to raise money for the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (Sands), and nursing staff from the maternity unit at Level Seven of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The fundraiser, at the Cross Keys pub in Wallingford, will also feature a barbecue, bouncy castle, raffle, stalls, face-painting and other activities.

Mrs Robinson, who works as a cook at the Dolphin pub in Wallingford, said: “Gavin and I had been trying for a baby for four years and we conceived following a course of IVF treatment.

“There were no complications in the pregnancy, so losing the twins came as a complete shock. What happened was terribly traumatic but we got such amazing support afterwards from staff at the JR and from Sands that we wanted to do something to help other people.

“Gavin works at Look-In across the street from where we live so he will be doing some headshaving, while two of my friends, Amanda Lester and Gemma Carmen, will do the waxing.”

Sarah Vaccari, a spokesman for Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “It is always incredibly inspiring when parents manage to do something so positive after experiencing such tragedy.

“Fundraising like this help us to buy the very latest medical equipment and improve facilities for parents and newborns at our hospital, and we are very grateful for this wonderful support.”
