BUSKING clergyman the Rev Dick Wolff raised about £300 for Christian Aid yesterday by playing traditional English tunes on an accordion in Oxford city centre.
Mr Wolff – Minister of the United Reformed churches at Temple Cowley and Risinghurst and is a Green Party city councillor for St Mary’s ward – said he enjoyed the annual busking session.
It was the eighth year in a row the 58-year-old has performed for the international aid charity.
Mr Wolff said: “I managed to play non-stop from 10.30am to 3pm without repeating a single tune and I think shoppers and tourists enjoyed it. They certainly made quite a few donations. Playing in Cornmarket is a good way of highlighting the work that Christian Aid does.”
Hannah Roberts, a spokesman for Christian Aid in Oxfordshire, which is based at Wesley Memorial Church in New Inn Hall Street, said: “People have been very generous with their donations. Last year, £41,000 was raised in Oxford during Christian Aid Week.”
Christian Aid Week started on Sunday and finishes this weekend.
