AN X Factor hopeful told jurors blood “gushed” from her face after her husband attacked her.

Katrina Teggart yesterday gave evidence in the trial of estranged husband and ex-Witney United FC manager Darren Teggart.

Mrs Teggart, a nurse who is waiting to hear if she is through to round four of the ITV talent show, said she needed multiple stitches after the alleged incident last June.

She said the couple had gone their separate ways after a night out at iZi in Witney and she brought back a friend to their house, leaving a note asking Teggart, 43, to sleep on the sofa. She said she was upstairs in her room with a pint of squash when the defendant returned.

She said: “Darren came up the stairs and just stood in the doorway and said ‘she’s not effing staying’.

“I said ‘yes she is’. The next thing this punch or something came in and the glass smashed. Blood gushed out of my face. I grabbed my face and there was a real sharp pain.”

John Simmons, cross examining at Oxford Crown Court, said: “He tried to take the glass out of your hand to get to you to speak to him.”

“No, he did not,” replied Mrs Teggart.

“And you pulled the glass away from him,” Mr Simmons continued. “No,” came the reply.

Mr Simmons added: “He didn’t manage to get his hand on the glass and he fell forward on to the bed, the glass broke and he said ‘for ****’s sake.”

Mrs Teggart said: “No, he did not.”

Teggart, of Burwell Drive, Witney, denies causing actual bodily harm.

The trial continues.
