BOLLYWOOD star Amitabh Bachchan called in at Oxford University yesterday and attended a lecture hosted by the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies.
Mr Bachchan, 68, a popular Indian film actor and producer, began his visit with a reception at the Hindu studies centre in Magdalen Street, before visiting the Bodleian Library and Trinity College.
Oxford University has long-standing links with India and this close relationship was discussed during the visit, together with the developing field of Hindu studies.
The actor was welcomed by Prof Andrew Hamilton, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, who said: “As one of India’s greatest actors and producers, Amitabh Bachchan is in an unique position to offer the benefit of his experience.”
Mr Bachchan said: “It is a great honour to be received so warmly by this ancient and renowned university.
“I am particularly struck by the long-standing and profound links between India and Oxford and, how, through the OCHS, the field of Hindu studies is flourishing here.
“I hope that my visit may serve to nurture this important relationship.”
