Hundreds of street parties were held in Oxfordshire to celebrate the Coronation in 1953.
A collection has been assembled by Marilyn Yurdan in a book called Oxfordshire Customs, Sports & Traditions (History Press, £12.99).
Most of the photographs come from the library at The Oxford Times, and the Coronation is given a chapter to itself. Many of the festivals covered seem unchanged to this day, particularly May Morning, though St Giles Fair is seen extending far beyond its present-day limits.
As well as the obvious events, the author has chosen some quirky ones, including a hobby horse hunt, held well before the ban on hunting.
