Back for a fourth year, Wood Festival, the folkier, mellower little sister of Truck Festival, is set to take place over the weekend of May 20-22. Set in the idyllic surroundings of Braziers Park, just outside Wallingford, the festival rivals Cornbury as one of the UK’s most family- friendly music events. It’s also one of the most environmentally-friendly festivals in the world, running entirely on renewable energy and featuring composting toilets, showers heated by wood-burning stoves and a solar-powered stage. There’s even a bicycle- powered disco for later in the evening, if you’re so inclined.

Headlined in 2010 by Frank Turner, this year the event’s bill is topped by Eliza Carthy (pictured), one of the leading lights of UK folk. Born into folk royalty as the daughter of Martin Carthy and Norma Waterson, she’s been recording now for over 15 years. She released a new album last year and has enjoyed a successful 12 months’ worth of touring. Willy Mason, who went down superbly at Truck’s own OX4 festival, is back by popular demand for a set at Wood. Mason is recording his third album and will be premiering a clutch of new songs at Braziers Park. Festival favourites Trevor Moss and Hannah Lou are also on the bill, as are local acts The Epstein and Band of Hope. Oxford folkster Thea Gilmore is also high on the line-up, fresh from her well received Murphy’s Heart album last year. Truck organisers Robin and Joe Bennett are on the roster as well, playing in their outfit, The Dreaming Spires and there are also appearances from Jali Fily Cissokho, Super Khoumeissa, Treetop Flyers, Katy Rose and the Cavalry Parade and Goodnight Lenin.

Tickets for Wood Festival are £99 for the weekend, or £79 for 13-17-year-olds. Twelve- year-olds and under go free. Day tickets are also available. For the full line-up and more details about the festival, go to www.thisistruck.com/wood.
