THREE-YEAR-OLD Penny Pritchard was one of the youngest gardeners who took part in a plant swap session and planting workshop in East Oxford.

The workshop was held at Barracks Lane Community Garden on Saturday and more than 50 gardening enthusiasts attended.

Kate Jury, director and treasurer of the community garden, said she was the daughter of Phil Pritchard, one of the garden’s volunteers.

She added: “I was showing Penny how to pot a seedling.

“The community garden is open to anyone who wants to use it and is open each weekend from April to October, on both days from 11am to 6pm.

“Thousands of people use the garden every year and we hold plant swaps once or twice a year as part of a local food programme which is sponsored by the National Lottery.

“A lot of the plants people brought along to swap were vegetables from their allotments.”
