A WOMAN told police she was robbed at knifepoint in the town centre.

The 51-year-old, who works at Martin’s newsagents in Market Square, was taking the papers from outside the backyard when she was approached from behind.

The attacker put his hand over her mouth and threatened her with what she believes to be a knife.

He then demanded money and the victim handed over an unknown quantity of cash.

A second man was in the shop at the same time and asked whether they should take the scratch cards, but the other robber said ‘no’ before both fled.

The robbery happened at about 7am on Sunday.

Pc Lindsay Nursaw, investigating, said: “The victim has been left very shaken by the incident, but otherwise she is unhurt.”

The first man was white, 5ft 8-9ins tall, with short brown hair and in his late 20s. He was wearing a dark jacket with dark jeans.

The second man was white, of similar same height, with lighter brown hair. He was wearing dark jeans.
