Once Maureen Wilsker, from Witney, called herself a potter and spent her time creating superb pots, garden ornaments and plaques of the Green Man. Now she is spending more time painting colourful wall hangings, wooden panels and patterned fabrics.

Maureen’s work celebrates the continuing relevance of myth in our daily lives. She believes that we are moved by the same forces and emotions as our ancestors — the only difference being the medium she uses to bring her figures to life. Today’s fabric paints give Maureen a chance to weave threads of burnished gold paint through her work, which both illuminate and highlight. Gold predominates in all her work, such that the mythical figures that adorn her silk panels are quite breathtaking, bringing out the colour and texture of the fabric on which they are painted.

Maureen also uses her painter’s palette to enhance wooden furnishings, little boxes and found objects. Her work is on show from May 14 to 16 and 21 to 22. from noon to 6pm at 9 Bridge Street, Witney.
