Police are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a newsagent in Witney.

The incident happened at Martins, in Market Square, between 6.55am and 7.05am yesterday.

A 51-year-old woman, who works in the shop, was taking the papers from outside the back yard when she was approached by a man from behind.

The man put his hand over her mouth and threatened her with what she believes to be a knife.

He then demanded money and the victim handed over some cash.

A second man was in the shop at the same time and asked whether they should take the scratch cards, but the other offender said ‘no’.

They then left with the money.

PC Lindsay Nursaw said: “The victim has been left very shaken by the incident, but otherwise she is unhurt.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who has any information about this incident and who has not yet spoken to police.”

The first man was white, 5ft 8in to 5ft 9in tall, with short brown hair and in his late 20s. He spoke with an Irish accent and he was wearing a dark jacket with dark denim jeans.

The second man was white, around the same height as the other man, with lighter short brown hair. He was wearing dark jeans and also spoke with an Irish accent.
