NOT very long ago, the library in Abingdon was redesigned and upgraded.

Now it is self-service – there is a children’s play area – and it even appears that you can get singing lessons.

However, I have heard that the library, together with a nearby doctors’ surgery, will be demolished and (rumour has it) will be rebuilt above the shops in the Charter shopping centre.

Surely this will make access very difficult for everyone, especially our senior citizens and the disabled.

No doubt the county council has already agreed to allow these plans to go ahead, so it will be too late to object.

It has been said that the shopping centre will also be re-designed, because someone complained that it was outdated and an eyesore.

There are many other places in Abingdon which are outdated and an eyesore. Perhaps the whole town should be demolished and rebuilt in Lego-style – then it could be easily dismantled and reassembled in a different style when required.
