SUMMER IS officially on its way now the city’s only open air swimming pool has opened.
Hinksey Pool, in Hinksey Park, off Abingdon Road, opened for the season on Saturday.
To mark the occasion the Oxford British Sub Aqua club, which uses the club house at the pool, held free taster sessions for visitors at the pool.
Instructor Nick Allsworth said: “We do it as a way to let people know who we are and also as a chance to give something back.”
Among those enjoying the waters was 12-year-old Jack Pickering from Bletchingdon, near Kidlington.
The Marlborough School Pupil said he was now looking forward to the summer. He said: “I have been snorkelling for about five or six years.”
Hinksey Outdoor Pool offers free swimming to all under 17s during specified sessions.
